Closer Day 8 – Psalm 25:1-7
Read: Psalm 25:1-7
1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. 3 Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. 4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. 6 Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!
Reflect – A Desperate Plea
This psalm is a desperate plea to God. In it, we see acknowledgments of trust, salvation, and mercy in remembering who God is and requests for wisdom, truth, and to be spared shame. The themes of God’s goodness and a desire to know Him more drive at the heart of these verses. The basis of these things comes from the assuredness of the salvation that God offers. In God, we find absolute truth, without shame, delivered by God’s gracious love and goodness. All of this is fully expressed in and through Jesus Christ. We desperately need Him to experience his goodness in our life.
Prayer
God, thank you for saving me through Jesus, and may I trust you more and more every day. Please help me remain desperate to know more of your truth. Remind me to rest in your goodness instead of shame. (Confess and surrender any lies, sin, or guilt that you have been holding on to in exchange for God’s truth, forgiveness, and love)
