Revive Us | Revival Night 2

Revival is God suddenly and dramatically revealing His presence so powerfully that society—its people and structures—is fundamentally altered.

We cannot demand Revival, and we cannot conjure it, but we can posture ourselves for it, and pursue it.

“the inevitable and constant preliminary to Revival has always been a thirst for God…. a living thirst for the knowledge of the living God, and a longing and burning desire to see Him acting, manifesting Himself and His power…” – Martin Llyod Jones

Lord, you were favorable to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob.
2 You forgave the iniquity of your people; you covered all their sin. Selah
3 You withdrew all your wrath; you turned from your hot anger.
4 Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away your indignation toward us!
5 Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?
7 Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.
8 Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly.
9 Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.
10 Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs up from the ground, and righteousness looks down from the sky.
12 Yes, the Lord will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase.
13 Righteousness will go before him and make his footsteps a way.

“What good news for me, a woman, a woman born in India, among Brahmans who hold out no hope for me and the likes of me! The Bible declares that Christ did not reserve this great salvation for a particular caste or sex.”

We believe all the great works of God belong to former generations, never to be experienced again.

When God’s people petition Him for His presence, He responds powerfully.

● A reminder
● A plea
● A promise

11 And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord, “For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever toward Israel.” And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. 12 But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ houses, old men who had seen the first house, wept with a loud voice when they saw the foundation of this house being laid, though many shouted aloud for joy, (Ezra 3:11-12, ESV)

Reminder

Lord, you were favorable to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob.(Psalm 85:1,ESV)

What is lost—even through disobedience—is restored because of God’s kindness.

You forgave the iniquity of your people; you covered all their sin. Selah (Psalm 85:2,ESV)

You withdrew all your wrath; you turned from your hot anger.(Psalm 85:3,ESV)

God is faithful to rescue and restore His people.

Restore us again, oh God of our salvation and put away your indignation toward us! (Psalm 85:4, ESV)

Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger to all generations?(Psalm 85:5, ESV)

God is not mad, just because He does not act.

Will you not revive us again, so that your people may rejoice in you? (Psalm 85:6, ESV)

Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation. (Psalm 85:7, ESV)

Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly. (Psalm 85:8, ESV)

A Promise.

God promises peace, but provokes His people to not return to foolishness.

Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land. (Psalm 85:9, ESV)

Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; righteousness and peace kiss each other.(Psalm 85:10, ESV)

Faithfulness springs up from the ground, and righteousness looks down from the sky. (Psalm 85:11, ESV)

Yes, the Lord will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase. (Psalm 85:12, ESV)

God delights to do good among His people, even when it comes in a form we do not always fully understand.

Revival requires prayer and pursuit!

1. Pray for a deep transformation in yourself and your faith.
2. Pray for a deep, lasting transformation in Crosspoint City’s Community.
3. Pray for God to Revive His Whole Church.

“Revival is a social, corporate thing, touching and transforming communities, large and small. Bible prayers for Revival implore God to quicken not me but us. God revives His church, and then the new life overflows from the Church for the conversion of outsiders and the renovation of society.” – J.I. Packer
